Classic Moc (23 last) follows the same heritage rule as Iron Rangers for most: about half a size down from Brannock/sneakers. Toe volume is generous; snugness should come from the sides. Long leather break-in is normal.
Red Wing Classic Moc (1907 and kin) often follows the same “size down from sneakers, respect width letters” pattern as other Red Wing heritage boots, but the moc toe last has its own volume. Many wearers still land half to a full size down from athletic shoes after proper measuring.
Expect serious break-in. Softening the leather and creasing the toe correctly takes time; a boot that feels coffin-tight on day one can become perfect later if length/width were chosen correctly. A boot that feels roomy on day one may become a clown shoe after pack-out.
Versus Iron Ranger: try both if unsure — some feet prefer one last’s heel and instep over the other even at “the same” size. Do not transfer size blindly without noting width.
