Thick socks & orthotics sizing

Draft guides: Matrices summarize seed fit rows. Individual model pages carry the full notes — see methodology.

Thick socks, winter liners, and custom orthotics change volume more than labeled length. Sizing up a full size to “make room” often leaves toes swimming once the sock compresses or the insole beds in. Prefer the model’s normal length advice, then add volume deliberately.

FAQ

Should I size up for thick socks?
Try the sock you will wear with the model’s usual advice first. Size up half only if the midfoot or toebox is crushed — not because the sock feels plush in the store.
Do orthotics need a bigger shoe?
Often a half size or a wide width is enough after removing the stock insole. A full size up creates heel slip for many feet.
Boots vs sneakers with orthotics?
Boots with removable footbeds and wider lasts are usually easier. Check each model’s width note and break-in expectations.
