Both are Adidas models, but lasts differ. Samba OG is labeled Runs Narrow (True to size length; half up if wide feet). Handball Spezial is True to Size (TTS for average/wide; half down if narrow (suede stretches)).
Adidas positions Samba as true to size with a regular-but-narrow fit; RunRepeat and wearer reports agree length is TTS while the toebox pinches wider feet. Stick to your usual size if narrow/average; go half up primarily for width, not length.
Handball Spezial is the roomiest of the Samba/Gazelle/Spezial terrace trio for many wide feet at true to size. Soft suede stretches — narrow feet who want lasting lockdown sometimes half down to avoid later heel slip. Length guides still split TTS vs slightly long, so confidence stays Partial.
Use the table below as a starting point from fit offsets — then confirm with try-on or returns. Width can matter more than length between these two.
| Samba OG | Handball Spezial | |
|---|---|---|
| Verdict | Runs Narrow | True to Size |
| Advice | True to size length; half up if wide feet | TTS for average/wide; half down if narrow (suede stretches) |
| Width | Narrow low-volume last — common complaint | Roomier than Samba among terrace trio; pliable suede stretches |
| Break-in | Leather needs short break-in | Suede molds quickly — expect more volume after a few wears |

The size-bridge table is all offset +0: Samba US 7 through US 12 start at the same Spezial number. The wear-box says Samba 10 → Spezial 10 because Spezial is often roomier in width, not because the labeled length changes. Fit offsets on the snapshot are Samba +0 (runs narrow, TTS length) and Spezial +0 (TTS for average/wide; half down if narrow as suede stretches). Same US, different last.
Length matching is the trap. Samba pinches at the T-toe; Spezial is the roomiest of the Samba/Gazelle/Spezial terrace trio for many wide feet at TTS. Half-up in Samba for width, then taking that larger number into Spezial because “the bridge is +0 from the size I bought,” adds length to a last that already has more volume. Convert from the Samba size that fits in length (usually TTS), then expect Spezial to feel wider at that same number.
Narrow feet are the Spezial exception on this page: suede stretches, so some half-down later to avoid heel slip. Do not copy that half-down onto Samba — Samba leather does not become Spezial volume. Confidence is high on Samba, medium/Partial on Spezial because length guides still split TTS vs slightly long. Start at the bridged US; spend any half on width or suede stretch, not on inventing a second offset.
