Both are New Balance models, but lasts differ. 9060 is labeled True to Size (True to size). 550 is Runs Narrow (True to size length; half up if wide).
New Balance 9060 fits true to size with a voluminous, padded silhouette that already forgives width better than the 550. Most wearers do not need to size down; narrow feet seeking a cleaner look can try half down.
The 550 is true to size in length but frequently called narrow through the forefoot. Average/narrow feet take TTS; wide feet often go half up because dedicated wide widths are limited on many colorways. Expect stiff leather until broken in.

Length on this site is true to size. The argument is volume, not a half-size. The 9060’s padded, high-volume last can feel sloppy on a low-instep or narrow foot — those write-ups call it “big.” A wide foot usually feels TTS. Our 9060 guide already says narrow feet seeking a cleaner look can try half down; that is a volume trim, not a chart offset. The 550 is the opposite last: TTS length, narrow leather toebox. Same US number, different feel.
